What a way to wrap up our historic 100th season at the Summerside Curling Club!

Our annual Red vs. Yellow Closing Bonspiel on April 4th was the perfect finale to a centennial year. The ice was a sea of vibrant colours as teams went all out with their costumes, but once the final points were tallied, the Yellow Team walked away as this year’s victors!

Costume Highlights

The creativity this year was off the charts!

Honorable Mention (Red): 2 of Our Junior curlers stole the show with their adorable and colorful ladybug outfits.

Best Costume (Yellow): Brianna Bovee buzzed into the winner's circle as a brilliant bumblebee.

Best Costume (Red): Goes to Dave MacFadyen, who went "all out" to represent the Red theme.

Closing Banquet & Special Honors

During our closing banquet, we shared a heartfelt moment as Club President Tim Hockin gave his final address. We want to thank Tim for his leadership as he steps down—your contributions have been invaluable to our club’s success!

We were also incredibly proud to present the Provincial Championship banner to the Amanda Power team. It was a special evening honoring their journey to the Canadian Scotties Tournament of Hearts. We can’t wait to see their banner hanging proudly in our club.

Award Winners

It was a banner year for new talent and long-standing dedication:

Rookies of the Year: Congratulations to Kevin & Nelda Praught and Kirk & Shawna Johnston. These two couples jumped into the sport headfirst—signing up for every bonspiel, cheering on other events, and putting in the practice hours. We are so glad to have you in our curling family!

Spirit Award: Awarded to Jacqueline Lecky. In just a few years, Jacqueline has become a cornerstone of our club—recruiting new members, joining the executive, and bringing a positive energy that makes everyone want to play.

Lester Fitzgerald Award: This prestigious trophy for long-term support and dedication to curling, was presented to Lou and Marg Nowlan. You both have been role models in the curling world for many years, and we are honoured that you call Summerside home.

The Barefoot Draw to the Button

We ended the night with our legendary Barefoot Draw. It was a crowded field of brave souls, with Veronica Smith, Garth Thompson, Alan Mendoza, and Troy (visiting from BC!) making it to the finals. In a nail-biting finish, Alan Mendoza landed closest to the pin to take the title!

Thank you to everyone who made our 100th year so unforgettable. From the first rock thrown in the fall to the last banquet toast, it’s the members who make this club so special.

See you all back on the ice next season!
