Girls Rock Event a Big Hit at the Club
The Summerside Curling Club was filled with energy and excitement this weekend as 25 girls aged 9 to 16 took part in the club’s Girls Rock event. The day was all about introducing new players to the sport, and it was clear that many participants were quick learners—some showing impressive natural talent right from the start.
The girls learned the fundamentals of sliding, sweeping, and throwing, before putting their new skills to the test in a fun two-end game. After the on-ice session, participants were provided lunch by Famous Peppers pizza who graciously donated the pizza for the event. Special thanks also go to ADL and the Superstore for their generous support.
Perhaps the best moment of the day came after lunch, when many of the girls asked if they could go back out on the ice for more throwing and practice. Their enthusiasm was infectious, and the smiles on their faces said it all It was a day full of fun, friendship, and curling spirit.
The event was made possible thanks to the hard work of organizers Emily Vanlderstine and Tracy Chaisson-Lawlor. Also a thank you to Amanda Power's provincial team of Sabrina, Emily, and Veronica—they were great role models for the young girls. Additional thanks go out to the Junior Curling Parent Committee for their valuable help off the ice.
The Girls Rock event was a wonderful reminder of how sport can inspire and empower young athletes, and the club looks forward to welcoming these girls—and many new faces—back to the rink again soon.
